Recurve recommendations

Hi all, awesome site y'all got.

Over Christmas I acquire a 100$ cabelas card, and after spending an hour wandering the store trying to think of what to spend it on, I found the recurve bows. I've goose hunted with a compound in the past, but, didn't like being tied in with the release and what not, and think I'm going to be getting a recurve for bird and primitive hunting. I'm aware of.the 40lbs bow rule for large game, but, I'm debating if that will be a factor in this decision. I don't know much about recurve, and would like to hear your suggestions. However, I am stuck with the cabelas selection, but still would like some recommendations

Not sure about their recurve selection, but know they carry the Bear Montana longbow. It looks to be a pretty well made bow.

I think they carry the Samic Sage. I have one and it one of the most popular entry recurve out there. You should be able to pick-up the bow for about $150.

I was talking with Jason @ Riverside Archery Mount Vernon today. The PSE Coyote  seems to be a sweet recurve in the $200 dollar range.

Just bought a Sage at Cabelas a month or so ago.  Very good entry bow.  I bought 45lb limbs to work on form and practice and have 55lb ones that I will hopefully graduate to at some point.  The research that I did told me that I really couldn't go wrong with the Sage.  Very happy with it so far.

For game I would get a 55#.  I shot a 70# for years and it beats up your elbows if you practice much with it.   Instinctive shooting takes a lot of practice and even then I never wanted to shoot past 35-40 yards.   Was great for those close running shots though.

Don't go over 40# to learn to shoot with.  Too many bad habits that take years to break are a result of people being overbowed when they begin.  It doesn't matter how much weight you can draw with a compound either.

I went with a 45 lb Samic because I could hunt with it, and the poundage allowed for a similar anchor point in comparison to my compound.
