Little Pend Oreille Wildlife Refuge
« on: November 04, 2016, 11:30:37 AM »
I'm heading over for a Veteran's Day weekend hunt with my son. We weren't able to tag his first deer during the October rifle season so we'll give this a try.  I'm thinking about camping and hunting this refuge but not sure where to start looking. Anyone hunt this before for whitetail? What general area would you suggest looking at? Any help/guidance would be much appreciated.

It will be flooded with people. The area within and near the refuge is heavy with roads. When you get into heavy deer sign, hunt it. It will not be everywhere.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Did the same with my son a few years ago.  Spent five days, froze our asses off, and saw one doe.  All the deer are in the private land around the refuge and only go out in the open at night. :sry:

That's not entirely accurate.  There are deer throughout the refuge, but they are obviously not nearly as visible as the ones on private land.

There is a lot of truth in Jonathan's post.

I used to hunt this several years in a row, if you drive through it and hunt behind it or on Black tail mountain it can be productive. The refuge doesn't usually start getting good until the rut.
