Leupold Gold Ring Compact Spotter
« on: November 28, 2016, 12:01:07 PM »
Anyone have any experience with these? I'm looking at the 15-30 x 50mm. Have an opportunity to pick one up for about $250.

I use that same spotter.

Nothing I don't like about it.
Very clear, light and compact.

I use the 12-40x60, depends on the type of hunting you are doing and also the terrain. For what I am doing now, I will not pay dummy tax anymore and settle for anything less than the best. I have racked up thousands just by upgrading every year or every other year. Like I said it depends on what you are doing, if you eventually want the best then just buy the best and get it over with  :twocents: $250 does sound like a steal though! Have a nice day.

I have never used a spotter while hunting before, but this year in Idaho I was in desperate need of more power while doing some long range glassing.

I do not like the idea of packing a full size scope around with me, purely for space and weight savings. I also, (at this point anyway) am not worried about scrutinizing every aspect of a buck/bull, but am more worried about making sure that he's a decent buck, or simply just finding horns at long distances.

I am also playing the with the idea of getting a pair of 15x binos for tripod glassing, because they are so much easier on my eyes than a spotter. The price of this scope is pretty hard to beat though and I feel that I could get that price for it again should I decide it's not the way I want to go.

Sounds like you just answered your own question. If you feel you could buy, use, and resell at no loss on the deal I would go for it.

That spotter will work way better than the one left at camp because its too heavy to pack binos, rifle and big spotter all the time.   If you are using spotter more than an hour a day get a great one.

Looks like I'm getting a spotter then      I will probably also get a pair of 15x binos and figure out which one works best for me.
