Leupold BX3 Mojave Pro Guide HD vs. Vortex Viper HD
« on: November 29, 2016, 02:07:19 PM »
I have a pair of the Viper HD 10x42, I really like them, have used them for 2 seasons. I'm considering a pair of the Leupold BX3 Mojave Pro Guide HD's in the same power.

I'm planning on going to Cabelas to compare them myself, but wanted to see if anyone has compared these 2 side by side.

I can't say for the Leupold set, but I have a pair of Vortex Viper HD 15x and I can't say anything great about them. The eye piece has come off (glued on cheap plastic) and in order to get it to focus at all, the eye relief has to be cranked all the way out. Image quality is considerably lacking from edge to edge as well. I have used their scopes and have been impressed with the image quality and function, however I am let down by these binos to say the least. I know you already said you like your existing pair, but I would always buy leupold over vortex after this; just my  :twocents:

Thanks for the response. I was considering a pair of the 15x Vipers, but I have not had an opportunity look through them.

I did test drive these 2 sets of binos and I decided that I liked the Leupolds more, and ordered them. I'm going to play with the two side by side in the field for a while and make a decision on what to do from there.

The Kaibab 15x56 is a nice binocular.  I cannot speak to the Viper 15 from experience.  I think Nikon makes a Monarch 5 in 15 power, you might try to locate a pair of them to look through too.

It is 16 power https://www.amazon.com/Nikon-7582-MONARCH-16x56-Binocular/dp/B00E3URVH8

Thanks JD, I'll look into those. Hoping to get a feel by mid summer sometime and decide if I want to go that route or the spotter.
