So I been seeing the hell outta coons but not shooting them. I killed one last year had it taxidermied, and really have no desire to kill anymore. but there all I seem to see and I am thinking would it be bad to just shoot them and leave'em lay? not really the way I role but whats the diffrence in shooting coyotes and leaveing them and doing the same thing with a coon? whats your take?

I hunt for food not sport. If you want to do some shooting shoot targets, or get a camera and challenge yourself that way. Raccoon probably will cookup just fine.

Simply put, the difference is coyotes eat fawns, I doubt raccoons catch too many.

Coons are probably the #1 killer of eggs and chicks of your favorite game bird.

IF I have said it once I have said it a million times! EAT THEM!!! Gut, Skin, soak in water over night....then throw them in a slow cooker bones and all, spuds,carrots,seasons and make just like a pot roast!!! I'm telling you....they are great....tastes just like BEAR!!!!

I eat them whenever I get the chance!!!!

I suppose we better start shooting hummingbirds beacause they eat all the nectar that the bees get to make the honey we all love to eat. Time to load up some size 20 shot for a Hummingbird shoot.

I've eaten them several times and I think they are exactly like bear.  If you get them when they have been feeding in the orchards, or at least eating good food, they are great.  If you get them out in the sticks by a slow moving river/slough, they don't taste that good.  Just like a bear.

I shoot raccoons when they become a nuisance around my house. I keep my garbage cans put away, I generally feed my cat in the mornings when they are not around. Sometimes though, they become relentless. They also harass my dogs. One raccoon could easily kill my wives 9lb. dog. They are also a small game animal I believe. I don't think Ive ever seen hummingbirds in the reg book, although when I was a kid, I watched my buddy shoot one out of the air with his bb gun.

Geez, I can see where this is going. I've never shot one but would in a heartbeat. They're filthy garbage eating, bird killing, pond raiding, disease spreading, vermin.

Kind of cute and cuddly in the movies though.  :rolleyes:
