jeep wrangler TJ 4.0L radiator issues
« on: January 14, 2017, 07:23:24 PM »
I have a jeep, had it for 11 years, and, I seem to go through a radiator every 2 years, im on radiator #3, and im getting fed up. stock radiator gave out around 75k, and have had to put a new radiator in every 12-15k miles since. I run green coolant, but, coolant shouldnt effect plastic, so, I attribute this to low quality parts.

when I had the mopar stock radiator in there, my jeep woild heat up to about 210deg and my heater was hot as hell, after several radiator replacements with plastic capped radiators, I run about 200deg. factory radiator cap was 18lbs, and ive been running a 13, because my radiator seals blow regularly. I know I have vaccuum leaks on the heater mixing flap and stuff, so, it runs cooler because of not building reccomended pressures, but... if I put a heavier cap, id blow my radiator faster...

my jeep has 112,xxx miles on it, and I consider it unreliable vecause I dont know when or where my radiator will blow next.

has anybody had radiator issues with thier 4.0L?

anybody know if a metal tank radiator for a jeep 4.0 that isnt 800$?

I've had good luck with Performance Radiator in Tacoma. Replaced my factory unit at 120,000. Just installed my second Performance at 355,000 miles.

The OEM radiator in your Jeep had plastic tanks and a metal core FYI. All the cheap replacements have the leaking tank issue . Either replace with OEM or spend some $ on a Good aluminum radiator. Go back to the 18lb cap. Check the heater resistor ( they melt) and cause no heat . I have a Drake Off-road aluminum radiator in my 98 . Been in there 5 years an no problems.

Anyone that thinks a Glock is better than a 1911 paints his toenails.

Mid grade Performance went 14 years and 235,000 miles before I replaced it.
Replaced it for maintanence purpose only, no leaks.   :dunno:
