« on: February 15, 2009, 04:31:29 PM »
Hi I have a 8 month old brittany. I have called a few trainers and they all use e collars. Does anyone know of some trainers that dont use e collars.

I don't know of any trainers that don't use them. Are you looking to hire a trainer that doesn't use them? If so why?

 :yeah:

They are a great tool that allows anyone the ability to REINFORCE trained commands. While I do not use one on my pups I do use them for reinforcement. In the field I almost always have one on my dog as you never know when you will need to make sure the dog understands, porcupines, deer, roads/cars, other dogs, out of season cripples (2 years ago my buddies dog retrieved 2 geese that we did not shoot as they were closed) just to name a few times when YOU need your dogs attention.

Common, yes atleast in the ones I have talked with. It is good to purchase one for yourself. Especially for a pup in that they get puppy ADD and will do what they want and when until trained. I have a e collar on my dog all the time I am not out in my fenced back yard if I am taking the dog into the woods. I have a brittany and he has had an occasion to chase a deer, bear etc. I give him a hit to break his focus on chasing something I don't want. I rarely use my collar to shock but never know when the occasion should needed in the above mentioned circumstance. I don't advocate zapping your dog on regular basis.
