Meat grinder questions. Cabelas vs LEM
« on: January 29, 2017, 09:30:31 AM »
Looking to finally pick up a quality grinder in the 300ish dollar range.
Two that I have narrowed it down to (open to input on other options) are the Cabelas carnivore .5 HP and the LEM #8 big bite grinder.
The LEM is about 25 bucks cheaper, has a solid warranty, and seems to get great reviews...although everyone on here always seems to rage about the cabelas carnivore grinders.
Just looking for any insight or input!
Thanks

I have the cabelas .5. You will be told you need bigger, but i like what I have. Paid for itself the firs two years I had it.

i would only agree that I'd need bigger if I was better at consistently filling tags  :chuckle:

my father and I share a carnivore 1/2 horse. its an awesome grinder, went through 40 pounds of venison faster than I could feed it. we stuffed 20 pounds of german sausage and we were the limiting factor. between dad and i, we have probably ground and stuffed over 100 pounds of various sausage types and the 1/2 horse carnivore hasnt even broken a sweat yet.

i would definitely recommend the carnivore line of grinders

I like my cabelas grinder. But you probably are fine either way.

I just bought the cabelas carnivore 3/4 last week. 400$. It's only 50$ more than the 1/2 horse. May as well for 50$. They are on the club offer right now too if you have the cabelas credit card. You'll get like 70$ worth from the points.

I grinded 80 lbs of deer and elk the other day. First batch through it. The whole meat grinds through as fast as you can feed. The second grind for breakfast sausage takes a little while through the "fine" plate, but not bad. I'll probably get the medium gauge plate to go a little faster and to have the meat not quite as pasty.

I'm 100% happy with it. The thing is a tank, 50lbs!

My cousin has an LEM that has been happy with for many years. It's smaller than my cabelas carnivore, but he said he was very impressed with it when we used it for the first time the other day.
