Spring Hunt

Any one doing the Spring Turkey season with archery? I would like to tag along with anyone that is willing to take a newbie. Or if not with archery do have the ability to use shotgun as well. I am willing to drive a ways to meet up with people so just let me know. This would be my first time hunting for anything so help is definitly needed. Thanks

Here safeway has a lot of turkeys that time of year. JK JK anyways wish i could tell ya more but this will be my first time turkey hunting this year as well but the way I learn is to just go out and do it.

Guys, maybe you should hook up an try it together?

Nobody took me out, just grabbed the magazines, watched the videos, tv, etc..... Scouted a bit by myself....then picked a couple spots.... It is really not rocket science. Really fun to sort of self teach and learn as you go....Give it a try!

I would suggest that you get involved with a local chapter if your really wanting to get serious about it..
There are guys that love it and would take you in and teach you the ropes....
I understand that maybe your not wanting to take that approach and that is your decision, but I learned sooo much being there and doing my part.

Its not hard to do it yourself, but there is a learning curve for sure.

And also what NWTFHUNTER said, I started on my own reading, watching and just stumbling, I've only hunted with someone as or more experienced then me a couple times. It is enjoyable learning it from scratch but it would be nice too to not be the " Brains" of the hunt everytime, if you can get some one with lots of knowledge to " think outside the box" on occasion sure opens things up.  :twocents:

I use a recurve and am looking for turkeys near my home, a lot of looking and not a lot of finding. However, if you want to check it out get ahold of me come season and maybe we could hook up.

No, I only own 5 acres. I am hunting DNR land near my home and walking in around gates, I seem to be able to find them up until 2 days before season and spend the season trying to figure out where they went. I am going to be checking out several different spots throughout the season. I usually start out by hiking into a spot before light and just listening, when the robbins start waking up I will owl hoot or coyote howl/bark and hope to hear a response, if after a while I dont hear anything I keep on hiking after light I use crow calls and toot a loud horn, sometimes (during season only) I try calling hoping for an answer and looking for sign that these f'ng birds even exhist. Hunting turkeys is tough and easterns are the toughest let alone using a bow. You are welcome to join me but I promise you nothing but fresh air and exercise. All you need to have is a tag and your bow (some arrows for stumping) and lunch. A camera is useful for taking pictures of droppings and tracks to show your buddies. ;) :chuckle: I might have my blind set up if I can locate a spot were they are hanging out, or bring it with me if I find a spot with good sign. Usually it is just a lot of walking though.

Well getting out and learning how to track would be a bonus at the very least anyway. I think I would be game for that even if we did not find much to shoot at. Just let me know when you plan on going so I can plan for taking off work or whatever.

im gunna take my roomate ( shoot-em-up) out and hes gunna be takin his bow and see if we cant get hima turkey with his bow.
