no luck yet this year. been out a handful of times but haven't connected. westside and be tough cuz of how thick it is. it can be hard to spot them before the circle down wind and bust you. setups are critical. its mating season right now so vocals can be very effective. in past years pup distress has been my main producer. also, if possible, go out and howl and try to locate some near your hunting spots the night before, just to confirm theyre still in the area.

Was south of the Roy Y on JBLM at about 8 am last week. Setup an e-caller and in less than 10 minutes a very light colored coyote started working its way in. But lost it in the high ground vegetation when the caller failed.  :sry:

Used the coyote pack call and female in estrus.

I too hunt on JBLM. Ive had a lot of luck recently using Ranting Red Bird. I called one in on TA5 Friday and yesterday. I called one in on TA8 two weeks ago. Theyre loving the red bird.

Try TA 3 right near the range road/hatchery area. Ft. Lewis side is infested with them.

I'm not a fan of 3, but I'll give it a shot.

Called one in this morning in 12 but a truck came thru. The yote was running across the road towards my call and when the truck came he darted the other way.

3 isn't good itself I don't think, but I've seen quite a few on the prairie on the other side of the road. Largest coyote I've seen this year was on TA 13-the side closest to 15. You're in the right general area when you see an old camper from a pickup someone dumped there. I've seen them over in TA9 a few times too but it's pretty thick country over there. 7S used to be really good spot when it was open 14 also. But the whole base is crawling with them.

What are you shooting the yotes with on base?  I remember the access being a pain before 9/11.

Shotgun or rifle. Its actually fairly easy to get access.

It used to be restricted on rifle use, only allowed during deer season.   Did that change?

Yep. Almost every weekend there's areas open for rifle. One of the areas is open for rifle quite often during the week as well.
