Hancock Permit for Bear

I thinking of purchasing a Hancock permit this year. I've been thinking for the last couple year of bear hunting. I live only 20 min from the Kapowsin gate. My question is that is it worth the money and is there still alot of bear in that part of the county or any other info would be helpful?

Lots of bear in there. But even spring bear tag guys have trouble  filling tags  Good luck on your adventures.

There is a bunch of bear in there, but the majority of the property is really thick reprod that is extremely hard to hunt. Had the spring tag a couple years ago, didn't see one bear all season. Got to get in close to some elk that were browsing through clear cuts that I was glassing a few times to keep things interesting though.

  The bear are in there and since it is close to home you should be able to get a lot of good time in there figuring out where to find one. Once you figure out the where, all that's left is to put the time in for the when.

I've had the access permit for years and I don't recall even seeing a bear in there. But I'm not targeting bears either, just big blacktails.  If it wasn't for the slim chance of drawing one of the best west side elk tags, I wouldn't buy the pass at all.  The deer hunting just isn't what it used to be, I know the Bears are there but, I've never seen one, except for the one I did kill in there but it was with dogs when it was legal.

Bear hunting is the main reason we buy the pass with predator , coyote and cats , a close second , deer hunting is marginal at best but they are there . For bear locate feed and fresh sign and sit and wait , they will show up . We've had bear come in to fawn distress and rabbit distress but our best success has been patience sitting and glassing feed areas .  I would recommend not using calf distress call , all you will get is a bunch of pissed off cows charging in , and they can be quite fierce , though it is kind of a rush .

Same here, had that tag three years ago. Got out a total of four times from mid-May till mid June and didn't see one bear. Very thick property. Didn't and wouldn't apply for that tag again

For the Kapowsin the fall bear season is way better than the spring bear season. There are a lot of bear in there.

It's just like anywhere on the west side put your time in its thick for the most part but if you figure out where they are and when they come out you can be successful.

I pulled a spring bear out of there.  I reported the kill location, per their rules.  The next year I had the same tag and the owners arbitrarily closed all the low area that was so productive the year before.  Don't think they ever reopened it.  I wouldn't buy the pass again.

Been in there twice for spring bear. Never successful, very tough hunt.
