Anyone ever hunt gmu 22 in Idaho?
« on: March 13, 2017, 07:23:59 PM »
Headed over to gmu 22 idaho this season for archery elk. I talked to the biologist in the area already. Just thought I would ask on her for any tips.

Be in shape and expect plenty of company closer to the road.  Any unit's good n Idaho.  I imagine it had decent winterkill this year.  Still plenty of elk.  Good luck

Super steep & open country. Ticks & rattlesnakes frequent that unit! Timber is mostly up high although high over there does not mean high elevation. It heads all the way to Brownlee dam. I've seen elk there but it's mostly known for its Turkey & deer hunting. Could be a sleeper unit, who knows, the locals would! (grin) There's a small store & RV/Boat Storage place there on the way to Brownlee, it's the only one there, talk to the guy that owns it, I'll bet he could shed some light on the unit better than I.

that's where most of the out of state guys go. you'll see plenty of Washington/Oregon/cali plates in there.

Have heard it's a decent elk unit, but it's a phenomenal deer unit that isn't talked about much. 1-20 odds roughly for a resident though.  Washingtonians putting in for the draw doesn't affect my odds so there's that, it's the kind of unit you should eat tag soup or walk away with a 180+ imo.
