Wait until it greens up. You will see a lot more bears in the open and go through less gas if you wait till around mid May. My group has four tags in that unit this year so we may bump into each other. Good luck👍

Have you ever bumped into one up there?  I have spent a fair amount of time in NE, Sherman, Salmo Priest, Priest Lake, etc, and never had an encounter.  It would be cool to see one though.

There is nothing worse than having to deal with marauding godless killing machine grizzlies.  I will have to go with my fat friend as I am faster than him.

You stand a chance of seeing the Godless killing machines as well.  There are also wolves in the unit.

Nope. Grandma, the Dawg, and I just went for a drive that evening. Saw a road kill deer with a turkey buzzard working it over, a couple of mangy deer and 2 hens wandering around.
There is still snow on places in the roads

Did hear a couple of toms talking this morning while I was putzing in the yard.

Nice, the turkeys are becoming more suicidal every day.  Let me know if you see a 500 pound color phase.
