Savage model 42 .22/.410 compact
« on: March 27, 2017, 11:12:44 AM »
I was checking out one of the new model 42 over/under grouse guns yesterday.  It sure was a nice looking break-down compact gun.  It was kinda asking to go home with me.   Anyone else look at these sucessors to the model 24's?

I am bummed they did not stick with the original wood stocks, although I might be convinced to look a little harder at a stainless, synthetic model, if the plastic did not appear so much like an early kel-tec.

I have a model 24 22lr 20 gauge with a synthetic stock and love it.   I haven't held the model 42 but it sure doesn't have the aesthetics to me.  I also wonder why they didn't offer in the 20 gauge. Are 410 still a popular seller?
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

I wouldn't mind having a .22/20 gauge combo.  I do have a .222/20 gauge in a model 24.

On the model 42 vs the Chiappa, I feel the 42 is a better gun.  But to each their own as it's just my opinion.

I have a model 24 in 22 over 20 gauge. Love it!  410 shells are spendy for what you get.

My 12 step sponsor has talked me out of this gun.  I'm immune to it's charms so it won't be going home with me on any of my trips to the store.

I've seen a couple of model 24s on Armslist recently.  Cascade loans in Auburn, IIRC.

Yeah, I am a pusher.
