Early spring bass fishing

Pretty new to bass fishing and I live in Lewis county. Was curious when to really start fishing lakes? Really wanting to take the kayak out (if it's not pouring rain) soon and give it a shot. Any ideas? Is it to early yet to have some success or is it time to get out there? Anything helps. Thanks guys.

Not a bad time for small mouth bass.  Big mouth will become more active as the water gets warmer.  Mid to late April is best for large mouth.

My favorite time to fish for largemouth.   I really like flipping senko's under the pads and over hanging banks where the water is warming up

I like to use jigs and bounce the bottom really slow for smallsmouth.  Any kind of hump in deeper water also.

3 of my top 5 largemouth trips all time came in March...one in April but that was a freaking doosey of a trip!  The other was in October back before I hunted....note to self...quit hunting.

As stated, jigs 1/4oz to 1/2oz play with colors dark to light, twitched not "retrieved" bass won't be in a 'chasing' mood until water temps break 52*.  Senkos, jerkbaits with a loooong pause 10 seconds plus, Texas-rigged worms work well and Carolina -rigged worms in clearer water.  A lot depends on the lake you're fishing and the structure and cover available.

Keep in mind the bass are seeking warmth early on so focus on transition banks (45 degree angle-ish) with wood and rocks as they hold and emit heat very well.  Also fish the sunny side of everything if the sun ever decides come out?!

Pretty slow right now with the wacky weather and water temps refusing to rise.  If you see sun in the next week or two get to the water, you may stick the biggest bass of the year!  Good luck

The fish were up really shallow this last weekend, even in the 48-50 degree water. When you found them they bit really good.

Hit Liberty in Spokane Co. yesterday. Felt good to be on the water. 47 degrees. Hopefully we get some warmer weather soon. Fishing Senkos. Lost one great Rainbow at the boat and managed to land my first large mouth of the year.
