My oldest is a Mexican Mauser, manufactured in Germany. My fathers father, gave it to him on his sixteenth birthday and my father hunted with it in the Ellensberg area through the late 50's and early 60's. My father gifted it to me on my sixteenth birthday. My father has since passed, I can't count the Mule deer the rifle has taken between me and my father and other family members but I know for a fact it has taken 12 Elk between my father and I.
I still have a pile of 175gr Nosler Partitions he left me. When I was 14 I hunted with a Rem700 BDL is 7mm Magnum. My father looked at me while we were both standing out side the truck loading our rifles on the Elk opener. He looked at my rifle, held a 7x57 handload up then chambered it and said. "Some day son, you'll figure it out" and with a smile he dropped into the canyon with me in tow. I helped pack out a Elk for him that day and I couldn't have been happier!
And countless rifles and a bunch of 💰💰💰💰 later I figured it out.
