Questions on possession lings
« on: May 07, 2017, 01:07:08 PM »
Never tried possession for ling cod. I'm tired of deception pass.

How much does the tide effect it?

Any tips on where to load up on sand dab for live bait?

Any pointers on what area to start?

I have the map from John's sporting goods but that's a large area.

Any help would be appreciated. I've gone out about 10 times for lingers and have yet to catch a keeper.

The sunken ferry is marked by a bouy. Fish around it, especially to the northwest a hundred or two yards. Watch your finder.....there are fields of rock that may only be a few feet tall but loaded with fish. Scathed head is a crescent shaped lip. Fish the lip. You will see everyone anchored up over it. I like to fish it on the very small outgoing tide. Motor up to and past the lip, drift over it, repeat.

For sure. I appreciate it.

This fish was far too big to keep, but I reached my goal of catching a big ling this year.

Nice fish, too bad on the length.

Regarding dabs, most flatish areas 60-90 feet will have them.  Get 3 oz or so, a #2 hook and a chunk of squid.  Better yet, get a few kids and you will have more than you know what to do with.
