Elk Hunting Question
« on: May 11, 2017, 03:12:54 PM »
Ok, The more I think about it the more I confuse myself.  Do I have to commit to a weapon type when I buy my hunting license prior to putting in for special hunts.  I want to put in for some special modern firearm elk hunts, but if I don't get selected want to hunt muzzleloader for elk general season.  Thanks

That's what I thought.  That stinks.  I guess I thought WDFW might have changed it so that they could make more money.  Seems like they limit their special hunt income by limiting what hunters can put in for.

You have to pick the side of the state as well.

The number of permits given to each weapon type is based on how many people hunt using that weapon type. If people change weapon types after they put in for permits it would screw up the way the allocate the permits. We need to make sure we don't make the WDFW think any harder than they are otherwise the draw would never get done.

If I were you, I would hunt the general season I wanted and either ghost point or put in for an impossible draw - which is most of them these days.
