Adjustable bow sight
« on: May 20, 2017, 04:57:01 PM »
Experienced archers I just purchased a cobra 5 pin adjustable sight. I got the bow shooting well, but im not sure how to set it up with the correct sight tape for proper adjustments. The sight came with multiple tapes and different increments. What is the easiest way to set a sight like this up?

I would say the easiest way is chrono your set up and select the tape that is assigned to that FPS. Personally I set mine up by shooting groups at 10 yard increments and making small marks with a pencil. I then micro the distance of the marks, and match that to the correct sight tape. It has been very accurate.

I just did this yesterday with my new Black Gold sight.  I put the one that corresponded to the chrono speed on and it was nowhere close.   I think you could use just about any tape to start with and then do the following.  I shot several arrows at 80 yards and adjusted the sight until I was on.  It ended up being 76 yards on my tape.  I then put the sight back to 60 where it starts and removed the tape.  I lined up the 60 yard mark against 60 on the other tapes until I found one where the 80 yard marker was at the 76 yard mark on my original tape.  Ended up being 20 fps over what my arrows chrono at, but when I put it on, it was dead on.

I've set up my single pins by setting up the 20 and 60 yd mark on a blank tape match the marks and there's your sight tape. Dead on at every yardage mark.

I agree. My HHA single pin directions had me zero at 20 and 60 yds to choose a matching tape. Its dead on.

Or you could just sight in on a blank tape and write in the yardages

This is the same directions for my spot Hogg that I'm using.

I like the tip for checking each 10 yard distance with pencil marks too, I'll try that before slapping on the final site tape.

I have a tru-glo adjustable and I just used a blank tape and made my own. I just marked it for every 5 yards out to 50 yards. I also found for me that my bow shoots the flattest when I set it for 28 yards so I put a special mark there and now I just leave it at 28 yards when I hunt. set at 28 yards I'm just maybe an inch high or so high and around 35 I'm about an inch low.

X2 on the HHA, mine is money out to 90 yds. If I'm off it's me not the sight.
