The places I usually like to go there are not any roads and thus the quads would not be a problem.  In my experience in order to get to where the animals are you have to go past the line where most of your hunters go.  This means you have to go at a minimum of two miles in before the hunting gets good.  After that there are lots of animals.

Also a good rule of thumb for me is if I look at a deep ravine with deep dark timber and I say "that place looks like it sucks I don't want to go there"  That's usually a good indication that there's elk down there.   :twocents:

We see a lot of big bulls and harvest quite a few within a 100 yards of the roads sometimes...ya just gotta hunt, and know what you are doing.  We killed a nice 6x7 down in the sage brush last season about 200 yards from a main paved road.

Have you thought about putting in for the "Woodland Park" tag?!?! The elk in that unit do not seem to fear humans.....making it easy to get a close shot! Only problem is there seems to be a lot of other people there, but it doesn't seem to bother the elk! I have seen some nice bulls! Kind of cheap to, only cost about $20 bucks to get in there for a whole day of hunting! If you get time you could probably also harvest some pretty cool exotics!!!! I haven't got anything the last couple of years....due to all the anti hunters chasing me around telling me I can't hunt! I don't really let there views bother me though! It is defiantly worth the time! So, I think you should give that a shot.....Oh, and please let me know how it turns out for ya!!!! Good luck!!!

Here is the link to how many points on average it took to draw a branched antler tag last year. Your last three choices were all in the 3 point range. Colockum was 7.5

The one thing that you have to remember in WA, is that every year the point ave. will change. And even though the average to draw a branched antler tag might be in the 3 point range, lots of people with 11 points did not draw a tag. The point being that while more points will increase your chances, no amount of points will put you in the 'pretty sure I'll draw' category.

Well that may be true for modern firearm permits I don't think that is the case for archery special permits. There are way less people applying and the only ones with those amount of points are probably those guys that have been wanting a blues mtn. tag and don't want to waste all those points on another hunt. It should stay about the same for archery and even muzzle loaders.

Rackattack got it right. Anyone got any points out there. I'm plumb out and so is my hunting partners. Killed good 6's both times I drew it archery.

I still say the hunt sucks and noone else but me should put in for it. :) So stay away!
