Special Hunt Question

If a deer hunt note in the regs for a special hunt is "C", does that mean that it HAS to be private land? I read it as a recommendation. For instance, say hypothetically that Hunt  Choice 1019, Wenaha West, has a section of public property within the area described at the back of the regs booklet under "Legal Descriptions", then is the public land OK to hunt? I have read other threads on here that implied that it would only be open to private.

Question 2. If I apply for a ML special hunt and get drawn, and I also have a multi-season license, can I also use archery for that ML special tag? I'm guessing it is OK but would appreciate anyone to chime in. Thanks.

I see the same thing on some of the hunts I have turned in for before. most of the ground was farm land some was timber. some of the timber was open to public, but the big W charges for access.  in my case I could hunt the open timber land and some of the farms. but with out permission up front, I wouldn't have even turned in for it. hope this is as clear as mud.  Good Luck!

No, doesn't have to be.  Just kind of a heads up for people applying to areas with little knowledge of the land ownership.  So, people are complaining to WDFW about getting a permit for an area that is 99% private and they were too late to bang on some farmer doors.

It just means that most of the land available for that hunt is private and if you do not have or are not able to gain access, you should not apply for that hunt. All of the listed area for the hunt is open, public or private.
Also, if you have an ML hunt awarded, you may use your bow to hunt it. That is because it is considered a lesser weapon than the season is for. This is true for all hunts, general and draw. You may use a LESSER weapon than the season is for.

On question 2:
You can use a bow but not modern.
You don't need the multiseason to be able to do this.
If you draw a modern tag you can use any weapon. If you draw a muzzle loader tag you can use a bow or a muzzle loader. If you draw an archery tag you gotta use a bow.

If you draw a ML tag you can use a lesser weapon as said above but it has nothing to do with your multi season tag.

 Lots of gmu's have chunks of land that have either high power or no firearms restrictions due to the proximity of civilization. These gmus can still have modern firearms seasons despite ones inability to use a gun there so you have to use a lesser weapon despite the season.

The second deer has to match the weapon used in general season. At least I think this is how I understand. I understand different than my original question.

If you were drawn for a multi-season permit and purchased the tag, you don't (or shouldn't) have an "archery general season" tag. You have a multi-season tag. If you still have an archery transport tag, you need to exchange it. Once you've done that, your second deer ML tag can be used with either muzzleloader or archery gear.

Didn't you have to trade your archery tag in for the multi season? From my understanding, if you have the multi season tag your second deer tag can be for any weapon you choose to apply for, but can only be used with that weapon (or lesser).  I have not done the multi season tags as, fortunately, my deer is pretty much guaranteed in whatever season I get out here, so I could be wrong or at the least misinterpreting what you are asking.

I got drawn for multi-season deer but haven't purchased it yet. So I haven't actually traded archery for multiseason yet as I have until July. If I don't get drawn for the 2nd deer muzzy then I figured I would just hunt archery with my current general tag. This is allowed, right?

You shouldn't be able to apply for a muzzleloader permit until you've purchased the multi-season tag, since you currently have an archery transport tag. If you were able to, there's a flaw in the system and I would not count on getting the 2nd tag once the error is corrected.

With a Multiple Season tag, you benefit from more chances to hunt with a wider variety of legal weapons. You can hunt any open unit during all three general seasons. For elk hunters, this includes both western and eastern Washington general seasons. Without a Multiple Season tag, elk hunters would have to choose either western or eastern Washington.

If you buy your Multiple Season tag before applying for deer or elk special permits, you have even more options. You can apply for any weapon type. You can also apply for both eastern and western Washington elk special permits, even on the same application. For example, you can apply for a Bull Elk special permit with western modern firearm, eastern archery, and western muzzleloader hunt choices.

You could not submit these choices on a single special permit application without a Multiple Season tag.

Thanks!  So the system forces you to purchase the multiseason before being able to apply for an anyseason 2nd deer tag but doesn't force you to buy a multiseason before putting in for a ML second deer?

You should not be allowed to apply for a muzzleloader permit for second deer unless you have either a deer muzzleloader transport tag, or a deer multi-season transport tag. The permit alone is not sufficient.
