swakane gen. season vs special perm. chiwawa archery?

is the chiwawa archery tag a good hunt? how would u compare the general late archery season in swakane gmu 250 to chiwawa special perm. archery tag in regard to the amount of bucks and quality of bucks and topographic ect? and anything else u want to add? just to give u an idea of my experience during the gen. late season in swakane archery: I usually spend about 7-10 days hunting the swakane in the late season and I see on average about 15-20 different legal bucks during my late season in the swakane. I see about 2-5 bucks over 140" and never over 170" and about 5-12 of them r 70yards and under on average during this hunt per. season. this hunt gives me about 2-5 good opportunitys per. season on average. Ive harvested 3 small legal bucks during this hunt over 6 years of hunting it ranging from 120"-140". please tell me how my experience at swakane late archery season will compare to the chiwawa special perm. archery tag season in regard the above description or your personal experience or what ever else u want to add?

There is a ton more people in the Swakane Late archery hunt as it is open to more people where as the Chiwawa has a limited number of tag holders.

If you have not been bothered by the other hunters in Swakane, I doubt you'll see much difference in Chiwawa except the deer may be less spooky.  Same caliber of bucks in both units.  Most of Swakane is winter range whereas most of Chiwawa is transitional range.  If there is a lot of snow during the season Swakane may be better, if there is little to no snow I'd prefer Chiwawa.

I love the Chiwawa unit and having it virtually to yourself is a big plus.  In early December there will be some bucks at the lower end of the unit unless we get a very heavy early snow.  I agree with DOUBLELUNG that the deer will be more relaxed and not pushed into the deep canyon cover like they are in the Swakane where there are far more hunters.  Too late for the permit application this year but I would choose to hunt Chiwawa or just take your camera and have some fun.  The number of legal bucks you see will depend a lot on what part of the unit you hunt.  Nearly all of the Swakane unit is burned over and very open so you can spot the deer easily.  Some of the Chiwawa has more cover for the deer.

I have seen the Chiwawa look like a ghost town but I have also seen it full of deer. The timing of the migration and snow is huge. Best part is hardly any people so when u do see a larger buck u can pretty much have it to yourself. However he might be around all season or might disappear that night. Sucks to burn points on the archery permit just to head to swakane to see more deer.
