Coyotes in Winston
« on: January 14, 2009, 12:42:39 PM »
Going to head out this weekend to the Winston GMU. I have never been out in that area. I hear there are a few places to hunt. But most gates are closed, except the 9000 line.

Any suggestions where to go? What to avoid? Anyone have luck out there? If a woodchuck, could chuck wood, how much.... :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:..ah never mind you get the idea.

Cheers

There are some great places up in the Winston.  It's all gated though.  Some of the better places will depend on how dedicated you are.  In other words.... how far do you want to walk or ride your bicycle.  Where is the 9000 line?

My son and I got a big male out behind (East of) the rest stop on I-5 North.  (Got some looks leaving and then more when we came back with the hide).  That was before the snow, haven't tried it up there since.  Another good one is up off the Smokey Valley road, but it might be getting grown up too much now.  Haven't been up there in awhile.

If you need someone to go out with, let me know.  I'm just North of you.  (The name probably gives that away).

Good luck!  keep us posted

Hey CastleRocker,

Thanks.

Ya, I have never been up there, and just talked to my friend at work, its the 1900 line...argh! I was close. He also mentioned areas like 1800 line. He said there were some clearings out there. Yes, the gates are closed (except for the 1900 line), but it would make for less traffic, hopefully the dogs would be under less pressure.

I wouldn't mind walking a few miles in, trying every 400 yards or so.

Ya lets hit it! :hunter:

Anytime on the weekends. I have a few places that I have hunted up there, and off of Tower Road. Never did call any in yet. People that live up there, hear them all the time. But it seems they just come and go. One day they are here, and the next few weeks, never a hide or hair of them.

I also have a few places on the west side of Castle Rock, that I hunt, just off of West Side Hwy. Write me, lets get out there get after them.

Cheers

I understand that you guys just want to help out each other and I get that but if you want to get that specific about hunting areas please send a pm and do it in private, some of us don't want areas over called and shot up.  Keep a good thing good while we can
