Not sure about now but the last few times I was there you had to walk about the last mile, road gated. I camped there in the sixties when it was a ways from the road. Haven't since they improved it. Mostly I don't see any campers the once in a while I get up there. Should be nice and secluded I would think.

We killed a lot of elk and bear over the years above Yahoo.  Haven't been there in a few years but it was always a nice place. We came in from the. Clearwater camp and over the top on bikes.

You can drive up to a parking lot before the lake.  They don't close that gate anymore.  Instead they place boulders in the road a few miles up the road, but the road is 'failing' up that way.  From the parking lot you follow a boardwalk in a hundred or so yards to the campsites.  Usually a handful of campers up there in the summer.  A canoe is handy to take along.

 :yeah:

No elk or bear up there any more.  Lake is planted an I nice place to visit.  Don't waste your time during archery season.   Really all season is a waste of time.   :chuckle:

I don't think Yahoo is planted anymore.. Not many trout in it on the  last few trips up we took. I used to hunt up there for archery but last time I was up there and was the fifth rig to park at the boulders before daylight was the last time .. Beautiful country but way too popular anymore.

To be honest, i have the next few weekends and I'm Going to check Camping options all over up there, and in the Sol Duc. I'm going to be all over the woods up in that general area poking around.

The lake is basically surrounded by ridgelines, so it gets the late sunrise early sunset.  Lots of mosquitoes.  Not much wind goes into the bowl there.  For fishing, there's a bunch of timber down especially around the banks--so a tube or canoe would really help.
For the main road that goes up there, there is a bit of damage where they logged a couple years ago at the c3000/c3100 turn.  Also a spot further up where the road broke and is sinking so it is like driving over a big step--I have to use 4wd to go over it.  A few other trickier ways to get up there, but much tougher on the vehicle.
Have fun.
