Wyoming Pronghorn unit 77
« on: July 03, 2017, 10:12:51 AM »
I drew a 77-1 tag for speed goat this year. Anybody have any advice on what part of the unit to look at first? This will be my second trip to Wyoming. I shot a pronghorn in unit 50 near Elk Mountain in 2010. I'm looking forward to a fun trip, taking my soon to be 10 year old on his first out of State hunt.

Thanks!

Jamie

He's tagging along for the fun right?  As long as he has had hunter safety, he can hunt cottontails, squirrels, game birds - but not big game.  It's usually a lower antelope density in the Bighorn Basin, but good quality.  I don't know the unit specifically, but with irrigated agriculture and most continuous public land along the east side, I'd strongly consider the western areas where there is more topography and perhaps older age structure.  I'd definitely call and talk to the Worland wildlife biologist https://wgfd.wyo.gov/Law-Enforcement/Field-Personnel-Contact-Info/biologist-contact-info.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Yep, that's why I said "I drew" not "we drew"  ;)
