DNZ scope mount torque
« on: July 14, 2017, 09:51:01 PM »
I ordered a DNZ mount to put on my new Tikka T3, I was wondering if any other members know what torque to use to mount the base to the receiver? I'm planning on using 17lbs to mount the top half to the bottom, but I am having a hard time tracking down a figure to mounting the bottom to the receiver. Also DNZ recommends not using loctite when mounting the top half to the lower half, any opinions would be great!

Maximum torque value listed on the back of a Leupold package is 22 in/lbs for the 6-48 screws and 28 in/lbs for the 8-40 screws. I used blue Loctite on the base screws.

Make sure you are working in inch pounds not foot pounds. 17lbs would be bad bad bad. 25 inch lbs for the base should be about right.

According to their website they use 30 inch lbs on steel receivers and 18 in aluminum. Then 30 in lbs for the rings.

Don't hurt your wrench's feelings by calling it fat, it might stop working for you. Try words like fluffy or big boned. :chuckle:

Did not use loctite as recommended by DNZ on my 300wsm and 6.5, I have not had any issues in the 4 years I've been shooting the 300.

I think most people take the torque on their rings too serious. I just go snug, plus a little.

I never use Loctite either. Just clean and lightly oil the screws and snug them up. Dry threads rarely torque properly. :twocents:
