Drew the tag, anyone had it before that wants to share some pointers?  With last winter probably not the best time for the tag, but better now than never!

Still a Good tag 😉 It's all about scouting and using your glass, low deer numbers for the size of the land , I would look SW of the unit scout water ( google earth is your friend) you have a chance to take a great buck ! Good luck and enjoy the hunt

The winter kill shouldn't be too bad in that unit.  Even though Owyhee County got 130% of their normal snowfall last winter, their average precip for the whole year is still less than 12", so I doubt that they starved out there.  I think there will still be some big bucks left to go after this fall.  I haven't hunted in that unit, but I hunted in #42, and all the hype was about South Mountain, so you might want to start there.  That unit has a history of huge bucks, good luck!

Tags not quite what it once was, but can still be good. The south mountain is good advice for a start. Trick in that unit is finding a buck with good mass. You'll find some with good length but spindly. I'd start scouting early it's not like there's really high country they migrate out of in that unit. Go find one and keep tabs on him

After years of several of us applying, my dad ended up being the lucky one to finally draw this year! We'll keep an eye out for WA plates when we're over there, maybe we'll bump into one another. Should be a fun hunt!

Great buck and awesome country to kick around in!

Good luck on your 40 hunt.   I know it has been tough the last couple of years, but it is always fun hunting where giants roam.

Yes, a nice buck for sure.  Actually going to hunt Elk with those guys this year.  Nothing better than hunting an area with good genetics even if you eat the tag like I did in Wyoming 2012.
