Marble Mountain
« on: July 23, 2017, 08:18:54 PM »
Any word on how the elk herd generally around the marble mountain area on the south side of St. Helens has been doing the last couple years? Haven't been there in a while and was wondering how herd numbers have been doing. Any advice on how you've been archery hunting it would also be a plus. Go ahead and shoot me a PM.

And welcome to the forum! Starting with an introduction of yourself would be a good place to start on the forum!

In general elk around the Lewis river unit are decent in my opinion. Lots of snow this year. I've seen some calves in the unit, which is good. I also think harsh winters can keep hood rot out of the higher elevations in the Lewis river unit.

Best advise is to take a stroll down there and scout it out. You're not too far and there's plenty of scouting season left!

Good luck!

Awesome, yeah I hunted over there 2 years ago and there was a ton of pressure and not a lot of action until the sun was about to go down. Thanks!

The herd is doing fine though the area has been completely flooded with hunters the last few years. Seems that everyone who didn't want to buy Weyerhaeuser permits is now hunting the Lewis River. I've been hunting the area for ten years and absolutely love the area but be prepared for people pushing the herd into the vine maple after the first day or two.
