This area was available for dog training/ pheasant and waterfowl hunting but now will be flooded and only accessible by boat. Wdfw still has not replaced the land lost due to them flooding headquarters.
As usual when wdfw is asked about the land being replaced they say " it's in the process" and that's what they have been saying since 2009.

They've been saying it for longer than that since they flooded the Headquarters on Fir Island. The public were against these projects. But with Federal funds available for phony salmon estuaries WDFW finds it more feasible to flood it rather than fixing and maintaining it for hunting.
They were suitable pheasant release sites for the area and could never be replaced.

While at the same time caving on the release site on bow hill.

I'm convinced they just don't want to release pheasant anymore.

In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

That was obvious when they went from a punch card to the $90 fee

Seems to be the case in Skagit and North Sound areas, but surrounding areas such as Whatcom and Island County(Whidbey) the release program is alive and well with managers doing an excellent job :dunno:

Whatcom and Island Counties don't have much public land that is identified as potential for salmon restoration.  (Which is a plus)  DFW is required to replace 170 plus acres to replace the land lost on Leque Island.  They have been very slow (this is a gross understatement!) to find replacement lands.  Lack/loss of opportunity is one of the reasons Senator Pearson and the legislature refused to support DFW's license increase package.

Well I guess that sounds a little more positive. Hard to believe they need a license fee increase to move forward though. And 170 acres replacement really isn't enough for a pheasant release site either.
