Hi all, looking for a little general information on GMU 124, Mt Spokane.  Scouting so far in selected areas for modern hasn't looked too promising, so decided to  switch to black powder and head across the state in search of meat for the freezer. A buck would be nice, but I have NO problem with a doe; they eat just fine! I know the story with very limited public land and am planning on getting an IEP permit.  What I'm mainly looking for is which area of the unit would be a good fit for 2 older hunters, 59 and 64.  We're both willing to bust brush and climb mountains, but our bodies say "act your age!". Also, what are camping options in the area? I know that IEP doesn't allow camping, any decent spots that someone can point us to? We're going to try to get over there before the opener but if not, would like to be as prepared as much as possible.

Getting the EIP permit is a good move, in my opinion.

I'd probably try lower elevation EIP land bordering private/agriculatural land.

I used to hunt 124 a lot on a private farm... When things got slow, we'd typically go knock on a farmer's doors asking for permission on their land. Honestly, I can't recall ever being told no. Be polite and I bet you'll be surprised. Lots of options if you're willing to take a doe.

Busting brush and climbing all the mountains may not be the best approach to whitetail hunting. I would watch heavily used trails and Amish the deer. Going to feed or bed. It is very tough to jump shoot Whitetail's in cover.
