If you want a good laugh here's today's hunting tale.
« on: September 10, 2017, 09:07:52 PM »
Figured I'd post this and see if you guys get a kick outta this just as much as I did. So mid day today nothing was moving around and I'd figure I'd go hike an area were I knew there was a nice cool saddle for the elk. I get up there, good sign but unfortunately no elk. About halfway down I herd a loud snap and first thought was elk. I immediately stopped and crouched(it sounded close). 10 minutes go by and I here nothing so I blew on the hoochie. Sure as $hit here it comes(I can't see it just hear it) then it stopped and I blew again and we played this game for about 45 min. Now at this time I think it's literally 10 yards away but still can't see. I blew 1 last time and before I could even get it out ......MOOOOOOOOO... goes the cow.  A freaking Angus beef cow was up on the hillside. Scared the crap outta me hahaha. So I headed back down and couldn't believe what just happened. I figured somebody on here would laugh at that.  Btw this was no joke, actually happened to me today. I swear.  :bash: :yike:

I had nearly the same thing happen to me about 3 years ago up above the Chewuch.  Big a$$ coal black angus cow and calf  stepped out from some steep timber when we were bear hunting.  Made me think a bit.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

Sometimes those cows turn out to be something else. I was hunting for turkeys years ago in the Goldendale area. Seeing no sign I walked up a dry creek bed that centuries earlier our Native American friends had littered with their handiwork while fashioning arrowheads. As I climbed the hill I kept hearing a thunking sound occasionally ahead of me. Through the bushes I could finally see the black side of a cow. I got within about twenty feet from the cow and it stuck its head through the bushes to look at me. I was staring straight into the face of a big Momma black bear. We both froze and in that moment I realized she had had two golden cubs near her feet. I raised my gun knowing that a shotgun full of birdshot was not going to help much if she charged .I slowly retreated as she watched me and then she rounded up her cubs and off she went. The thunking sound had been her turning over rocks looking for grubs. Momma bear weighed well over three hundred pounds.

Don't feel bad, went out and checked my camera and had a wad of pics, I got really excited, until I looked at them. The guy next to where I hunt cows got out and hung out in front of my cam for a few days!
