How much does an extra inch matter?
« on: September 11, 2017, 05:47:46 PM »
So in Boise Idaho I just dropped into two different bow shops and was trying out bows. Both shops told me that I'm shooting the wrong length bow and my 27" draw should really be a 26" draw or 26.5". Being that I have been shooting bows for about 15 years I never realized that I anchor along the side of my nose and not under it on the tip.

Since I have been thinking about getting a new bow after this archery season should I go down in draw length and change my anchor point? Does it matter? When shooting with the shorter draw length bows it felt foreign since I was anchoring in a different spot.

Is there any major improvements I would see with relearning how to shoot over the next year? Also not to worried so much about the speed since both  bows I like are smoother and have higher IBO speeds and my current lethal setup is shooting at a whopping 240fps with a 497gr arrow.

Extra inches don't matter unless you're real short.  Then every one seems to count!

On a serious note.  If you're comfortable and group well, don't fix what ain't broke.   :twocents:
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

I have a mint Hoyt Carbon Spyder Turbo set up for your exact scenario.
I will make you a great deal on it since I bought a new one to screw with and it is taking up room on my shelf.

What I have found is if you are too long the string will hit the clothing on your forearm from time to time when you least expect it.

Depends on the bow and set up. How you hold and anchor plus the ata of the bow can change where the string ends up on your face. I've shot a few bows that would gain you speed over your current set up and be smoother. Try shooting a lot of brands if you want a new bow. Pse evolve and Athens revelation seem to be the two smoothest bows for there speed
