Turnbull Muzzy Cow
« on: September 20, 2017, 02:01:45 PM »
I have the early Turnbull Muzzy cow tag starting on Oct 1. I have been assigned the Northeast section for this hunt. Does anyone have any experience with this area or advice that they would be willing to share? How about any of the archery permit holders? Is anyone having any luck? I plan on getting out tomorrow to shoot a bit and confirm my sights and get into the unit the day before the season since this is all they will allow you to scout. Any insight from past tag holders or people who have hunted the reserve before is greatly appreciated.

End of September, first of October.   I was looking for moose, but anything would have done.  As far as I know I covered most of it.   It looked like most of the elk had moved on to private

Normally in the late spring at sunrise you can watch 50-75 cows mill around in the wet lands when driving throw there on the way to fish one of the lakes to the south.  Did not see a single cow this year is 10 trips that direction.  A couple of friendly wolves are roaming between there and Rock Lake and have scattered the heard.  When that tag was first offered it was a sure bet.

I hunted the NE Section two years ago and had a blast (Nov); super fun hunt and lots of animals.  Easy ground to cover, only in my dreams did elk exist / live on flat ground until I hunted it.  Be sure to have a game cart, I killed my cow 3 miles or so from the truck and brought her out while after de-boning.  I accessed the unit thru Gate 12, I was the only one in there.  Best of luck!

Thanks for all of the advice guys. I have a game cart that I will be bringing along with my actual pack. I'm hoping its fun hunt where we can see some animals.

I was in elk every time I was out hunting. I ended up connecting on a nice cow on the second night.
