GMU 340
« on: September 28, 2017, 02:11:29 PM »
Haven't posted in quite a while, been pretty busy with working overseas in the sand box. Has anyone had any luck in the Manastash?

I get back from overseas on October 24th and then my Opa, my father, and myself are heading out on the 27th to our usual camping spot to get settled in. Anyone that drives up the Manastash RD will be driving by our camp. My Opa likes to fly his confederate flag nice and high. Stop in and say hi, we always enjoy talking to new people. Hopefully we will have some animals hanging in our tree this year.

Good luck to all the hunters out there!

It was rough in the 340 during early archery. We had to make a major camp relocation to get on elk for the last few days of the season. Perhaps by the time your season rolls around things will have changed. There is a major logging operation on Hutchins Rd and a huge stretch of land between Tamarack and Joe Watt is basically unhuntable.
Fish hard, hunt harder!

Damn, that sucks to hear. My dad and Opa are going over hunting for deer season, so they will get an idea of what the season will look like for elk, hopefully. Hoping the fires pushed some animals in our area, haha.

Anyone seen anything in the 340 unit? My Dad and Opa are heading over for deer season on Friday, good luck to everyone!

I say a big 6x6 on sat and 2 cows on sunday.  Could have shot any of the 3 elk i say if i only had a special permit.  Cut 2 different bull tracks in the snow on sunday.  Other than that I say morelots bear tracks in the snow than elk.

Just talked to my dad today, in the area we've gone to for the past years, he saw one doe and one cow on opening morning, hasn't seen any animals since then. I'm wondering if this has to do with the fires, which didn't hit our area, or the wolves that are in the surrounding GMUs and wouldn't be surprised if they are in our GMU as well. Hopefully things change around come elk season, otherwise our group will all be eating deer and elk tag soup.

Saw a small elk heard, large 6x7 bull with cows on Saturday. A buddy saw 2 does...that's it.

Yea seems like the east side has been slow all around, not sure if weather needs to move in or what.

My folks will be there for the tail end of deer season and I’m headed over there for the start of modern rifle next weekend. If I see your camp I’ll stop in and say hi. Good luck. Hopefully we have some activity.
