best unsuccessful morning ever
« on: March 07, 2009, 02:05:49 PM »
went out coyote hunting this morning ( i know this is the elk forum ) on my way in i came up behind a cow and her calf i watched for a little and then headed to where i hunt. after one stand i got up to move further into the cut on my way in i noticed a elk about 300 yards across the cut,a pretty heavy 3x3. he didnt see me so i watched him for a while then i see a 5x5 walk out just under him. well im not seeing any dogs so i decide to see how close i can get to these elk. i double back get the wind in my face and start my stalk. i take my time and get to about 50 yards of the 3x3 and stop, then here comes the 6x6 so im watching them and all the sudden i see these massive antlers come over a stump here comes a 7x7 followed by another 7x7. well im real exited now especially since they haven't seen me just as i decide to get closer up the hill comes a monster 8x8  :yike: ( im not making this up) non of these elk have any idea im there.i let them walk up hill a little and then i move in closer when there all the way up wind. i got within 35 yards of that 8x8 with the rest of the bulls just behind him. i watched them for about 20 minutes before the wind swirled and they caught my sent, they still never saw me and the hung around another two or three minutes lookin kinda spooky before they decided to head into the timber. oh ya i didnt get a coyote.....but who cares  :IBCOOL:

And let me guess, no camera to prove it...  ;)

Sounds pretty fun though.
