Ya but you have to know exactly where it is to get there.  It's kinda hard to get to and not many would want to walk there.  I know I wouldn't unless I had to.  I rode horseback, but I know what your saying.  I was swarn to internet secrecy but guys were nice enough to give me hints towards my 2008 tag.  If it wasn't for them I wouldn't have scored on a dandy bull!

Skinner, Pretty easy hike to me, super flat for the last half. All I am saying is if a guy was smart he can learn alot from reading and putting two and two together from these posts. All we need is more people running around up there. This year it was a ZOOOOOO during the first part of archery season. But the last half was the best, all the weekend warriors had packed up and went home and the weather turned alittle cooler. Congrats on your bull, I also took a dandy bull up there in last minutes of the season.

Like Skinner said you have to know exactly where its at to get to it, and for most its a LONG hike in, and you almost have to have horses to pack a bull out of there, or quite a few friends.  All I know is I would never hunt that basin if I had to carry my camp on my back a long with an elk and make multiple trips...  Just no way it would happen.

Very few people know about it and nobody is giving out directions...  I'm kind of curious to know where you think it is, because I highly doubt you packed your bull out of that same area while on foot...  Maybe you're just a BAMF...   :dunno:

Hey MichaelJ, If you know as much as you think you know about the area, then myself hunting partner packed my 01 bull out from 800' below the lake, and last years is A LOT further in than that. And NO you can't get your horses to my new honey hole ( which will remain a secret ). There is a reason they call it a "labor of love". The hole way out you have to keep telling yourself you have all year to look at the pictures and remember. I am not into pissing matches thats why I only have 5 posts. I choose to reply to this thread because it hit to close to home/fav. spots. Just as proof I will get a pic up in the next few days ( not a computer geek ) if I can get this thing to work.

Thats definitely a tough packout and you must've come out the other way from what I'm reading... and no I don't know the area very well at all.  I drew that tag in '07 and thats the only time I've hunted that area.  A good friend who lives near there took me there and showed me the area.

I totally understand wanting to protect your honey hole and am not wanting a pissing match.  I think though that you're being a little too paranoid about the area...  It'd take a LOT of work to find out where that area is from that picture...

Nice duck slayer!  Cant wait to see pics!  That would be a hell of a hump over some of those ridges.  My buddy has got some awesome mt. horses from winthrop that we took in there and it was all they could do to make it "off trail" go my bull.  It's some crazy country and hopefully I can go back with a family member or gf if they draw this year.  Lots of people know of the area but its only a few who wish to torture themselves for the reward!

Bone, no need to look under the front bumper of your truck.  Nothing is there; I guarantee it.   8)

By the way, good luck hunting, uh I mean finding some deer and elk again this year.   :chuckle:

I have four points this year for an archery tag.  Peaches is my first choice I hope I get drawn for it since this will be my last year hunting in Washington.  If I don't get drawn oh well, back to 249 Alpine I go.

Last year to hunt in Washington why is that?

Sorry I guess I should have explained.  The last time I hunt in Washington for a long time.  I get my commission in the Army this June as a 2nd Lieutenant and will be around until April of 2010.  From there I go to Ft. Rucker Alabama for flight school until about 2012.  Then from 2012 until 2024 I will either be stationed at Korea, Hawaii, Alaska, Texas, Kansas, Kentucky, Georgie, New York, North Carolina or Germany.

Basically during that time if I'm going to pay to come out west and hunt elk every year I'm going to go to Montana, Colorado or some other place where I can shoot a branch bull.  I don't mean to sound snotty or stuck up but I'm not going to pay to fly out to Washington to shoot a spike.

You dont sound stuck up. lol I dont think anyone would pay money to come here and shoot a spike. Most of us live in the state and some of us probably have a hard time spending money to shoot a spike. Well atleast me since I never see any.

I know exactly where that photo of the pony was taken and (IF the lake they camped beside is between the pony and the saddle and not a mile out in front of the horse) the lake they camped on, too. It is my favorite elk hunting area.
I'd just like to remind everybody that it's about the hunting, not just the killing. In other words, it's about the total experience, the sport itself and the challenge involved. Bowhunting, done right, is a justifiable and honorable pursuit. Done for the wrong reasons, simply chalking up kills and seeking personal glory, it's taking away rather than giving back to a principled way of life that has to be experienced to be understood. If anybody is interested, that horse is for sale.  Just don't have the time for her anymore.  That was the first time she had even seen a dead critter.  I led her up to it and she started to eat the grass about a foot away from where it lay.  Didn't care at all when we loaded her up, even licked the blood off of our hands(must have been lacking some mineral?).  She's 6, about 16 hands tall, and an easy keeper.

If someone miraculously drew that tag it would be my pleasure to take you there.  As long as I could video it.  It would be awsome.
