Marlin Safety Model 1894 "barrel & action" Value
« on: March 17, 2018, 08:31:46 AM »
I have an incomplete Marlin Safety model 1894 that has been sitting in the safe.  Looking to get an idea of what this might be worth?  Any info would be appreciated.

Besides the butt stock and apparently the feed door, what else is missing?

Does it function as it is now, cycle properly, etc.?

Would be hard to place a value on it based just on just those pictures without knowing more, or at the very least, it would be a lower value than what it could be if it is just a matter of replacing a couple parts to have a functioning rifle.

It is better to be consistently incorrect than inconsistently correct...

As far as I can tell that is about all that is missing.  Gun cycles but may have other issues.  Trying to decide if it is worth bringing back to life or just part out.

I think I would watch places like ebay for a used butt stock and maybe the feed door as well and put it back together.

Unless it is a super rare, limited model (not saying it is not, honestly don't know), if it were mine, I would search out the missing parts and make it whole again just because...

This might help give you a ball park idea on value:

Thanks for the info.  I will start doing some research.  It appears that the gun was mfg. in 1897.  Need to grab a micrometer and determine the caliber.

is that the patent date? serial number might help with the actual date.
the caliber is not marked on the side of the barrel? That seems odd.

As a sale piece I would say it is worth more as parts than as it sits. It is missing most of the finish, it looks like it has been worked on extensively in the past looking at the gnarling of the screws, and it looks like the screw in front of the trigger guard is not original. If it were mine I would check caliber n barrel condition then try to rebuild to a shooter if warranted.
