Hey Dale,

I've been hearing lately that you shouldn't use an EF choke with Hevi Shot Magnums.  Is that true?

I've always heard that hard shot should be shot with suitable chokes or you risk damage. Some of the newer loads seem to be claiming they use wads that allow their loads to be shot in standard chokes, but I'm leery of that. A common opinion is to check with the manufacturer of your choke tube/gun to verify what you can safely shoot without causing damage. Quite a few hunters have damaged guns by shooting steel or other hard loads in guns/chokes only suited for lead loads. Here are some articles on chokes for various types of ammo:
