Moa turret mil reticle?
« on: April 12, 2018, 10:37:45 AM »
I’m use to using the MOA system and 1 click per 1/4 inch at 100 yards makes sense to me but the scope I want only has a mil reticle and some other really busy tacticle reticles I’m not interested in. I’ve never used a hold over reticle before and they only work at maximum magnification anyways, so is it really that important to have the reticle and turret system match up? I’m thinking about just going with the mil dot reticle and MOA turret. Any opinions?

If you don't plan on using the reticle to range then no it doesn't matter.

The problem is your ranging system is going to want to give you elevation and windage in one system.  Ie rangefinder will say 24 moa elevation 3 moa windage. It wont want to mix it.   If you are using that info it doesnt work. If you are calculating wind With separate chart or gauge it would work.   I like adjusting for wind with mil hold off and moa or mil dial.

Idk my range finder gives me yardage and I’m planning on having a quick sheet with MOA value... if necessary with 7mm Rem mag

I’ll honestly never use windage where I hunt, it will all be elevation

Your mil reticle can be converted easily to moa as long as you remember the conversion.... 3.43 moa per mil.

I had a scope with moa turrets and mil reticle and I have the reticle changer to moa based.

Mismatch can work but why bother with it?

Because they don’t make an MOA reticle on the NXS that I like besides the mil dot

Then either get a mil scope or deal with the mil reticle and moa dials.

I personally like the moar reticle

Best of both worlds! Dial MOA for your come ups. Or shoot Mil in your reticle. You can range if need be with your reticle and dial your dope in MOA once you know the distance. Most range finders give you both MOA & Mil capability. Range in yards, dial in MOA. Range in Mil's hold with the reticle. It's about as easy as it gets.

I was going to say, I don't think NF even makes a mil/moa reticle/turret.

I called them and they said they use to for a military contract but not any more. So I would have to get use to the mil system for NXS
