Spring yotes

Well, here it is that time of the year again, time for a questionnaire:  Does everybody up here stop shooting yotes now for the denning season or do you keep on shooting them.  What do you do?

I'm done too, but more for work reasons. It's not a bad idea to let them rest if you enjoy chasin them. Let the pups grow up so we can get after them in the fall.

I hunt them year round. I don't think the population is hurting. I don't feel like a COLDHEARTED KILLER either. If I can get a female or pup the challenge of calling them in is my motivation. I carry my TC Contender when I'm shed hunting. I take a break and do some calling and get a few that way.

I hunt them year round for a couple of farmers.  If no one hunts them, they come up to the barns and kill the barn cats.  When the cats start dissapearing, the rodent population starts exploding.  I dont feel like I am cold blooded because I only shoot the ones that have earned it.

A lot of farmers in the palouse will not let you hunt coyotes because they keep the rodent population in check.  I have hunted them year round but now pretty much lay off them March-Sept.  I wil kil any coyotes that respond to my turkey calling in the spring. 

The females start dropping pups around the first of April so if you kill a wet bitch, I encourage all of you to carry a shovel, find the den, andkill the pups.  If you open up the female, you will see little buds where the pups were attached when in utero.  Count these buds so you know how many pups are in the den and you can make sure you kill them all.

I have been trying to decide if Im gonna stop calling also.  I am really addicted to it.    I was thinking I might bring a camera with me and kill only the ones with mange and photo the rest.  Might be interesting to see what they do after I would have shot at them.  I dont want to educate a bunch of them though.

Go ahead and take your pics.  I call alot of coyotes and if I don't shoot at them or spook them bigtime I can go back the next day and call them again, not every time but often enough..

Im done until September.  I rather let the ones that are pregnant drop the pups, it gives me more to go after next season.

I just got back from going to Moscow by way of Hwy 26 and there was a coyote just outside of Colfax, so I guess MHWASH hasn't shot them all down there. Must be the one he's leaving for seed.

I don't go after them much in the spring, but if they come in while calling for bears I may kill them. It depends on the setup and situation.

I just woke up this morning and I already had my hunting clothes on, backpack was filled, and my AR over my shoulder. WTH, I guess I might as well go out then.

The dogs in Colfax are fearless.  I saw one in colfax last year chasing a 4point whitetail during early archery. You chase my deer you die is my motto.  Fawn distress calls work well on the mighty palouse.

I was driving 195 from Pullman to Steptoe Saturday, and saw 3 coyotes, two standing out against the snowy hillside. The pair was closer to Pullman, and the single was north of Colfax a few miles.

I was headed out for some hunting in the scablands, but a front was coming through, the rain was falling and the wind was pushing the tumbleweeds along at a brisk enough pace.  I kept the gun in the case.
