Rookie move Boat trailer
« on: July 06, 2018, 09:17:11 AM »
So a little while back I took my mom fishing out in my boat. We stopped at a second lake on the way home. Went to launch. Got the boat off the trailer and went to pull out of the ramp. I drive a stick. As I went to take off I rolled back just a hair. Enough that the driver side tire rolled off the side of the concrete ramp. It was about a 6 inch drop. I didnt realize it was a straight edge, thought the tire would roll back up on the ramp when I moved foreward. So I went to take off. It didnt budge. I had to get in the water and lift the trailer onto the ramp and drag it out. This is how it came out. I thought It was all bad. But turns out it wasnt quite as bad as I expected. The brackets that hold the leaf spring to the frame just slid down the frame. My pops (he is a machinist and were we were is on his way home from work) was at work so I called him and he brought some tools with him on his way home. Was able to loosen up the brackets and ratchet it back into shape with a ratchet strap.
I felt like such an idiot on this one. Esp since there was no shortage of spectators.
Not to mention A LOT of little kids around the launch, so I was not quite so able to verbally vent my frustrations with myself  :chuckle:

I'd chalk that one up to "S happens". On the scale of dumb things people do at boat launches, this one doesn't even rate. glad it was an easy fix.

That’s nothing. Those short trailers will make you learn quick! Get good at backing that one and you’ll be able to back anything down.
