cva thunderbolt magnum

Acquired an old hunterbolt magnum that is set up for #11 caps  my problem is I can't get a cap seated far enough on the nipple that it will fire the first time. The first time I pull the trigger it doesn't fire recock
and it fired every time  tried different nipples same result anyone have any thoughts thanks

I am not sure what caps you are using?  But I have had this same problem with cci #11 caps on a different muzz.  I stopped using those and now use Rem#11 caps. Or the RWS German #11 caps. I also use the knight redhot nipple, not sure if they make one that would fit your muzz or not?  I would try different caps though.

More than likely the nipple has been peened -  I would suggest getting a new nipple and your problems will probably go away.  The other thought is the spring on the bolt/plunger may need to be replaced - they do get weaker with age.
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

Have not had a chance to work on it yet but I have some of the rws caps I'm going to try
