new 257 caliber bullet
« on: July 02, 2018, 09:22:39 PM »
I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but I'm actually intrigued by this one.

A 131gr .257 bullet doesn't offer any practical advantage over 115gr 6mm or 147gr eld-M 6.5mm, but it's just different enough to be interesting.

Maybe it will take off and eventually relieve some pressure on the 6 mm supplies.

It could be a pretty good thing if more companies join.

If you get that fast twist 1/4 bore don’t forget about the 128gr hammer hunters

Wish I had a faster twist barrel... 1:10 won't shoot these as near as I can tell.

I always error on the fast side for twist. Very little cons and plenty of pros going faster

My first thought was to pick up a 1-7" twist barrel from Blackjack and see how fast I could get one of those bullets moving. Looks like they're a little worried about how well the bullet will hold up above about 330,000 rpm though.

I may need to drop to a 1-8' twist, but I think I've got an idea what to do with these.....

I see that Blackjack place has a pretty big 48hr sale on their .25 cal Lilja barrels but if you're interested in one you may not want to wait because it ends July 5th at midnight. https://blackjackbullets.com/product-category/barrel-blanks/lilja-barrel-blanks/?v=7516fd43adaa

I have to give those guys a ton of credit for going all in on this. Setting it up so that you can get bullets as well as appropriate barrels and reamers from one vendor was a great move.
