i grew up in the general region.  if your out for modern, its like a loggin road kegger,.  ive had cow tags in the past and its been a turkey shoot, but if your looking for a bull, you have to get off the roads.  theres a lot of roads though, but the elk like to hold up in that thick 10-15yo growth.  good luck

thank's scottystyle for the info. I was spoiled growing up when it comes to elk hunting. I grew up in oregon near the coast and hunting elk was a turkey shoot for both bull's and cow's when i was growing up. sure miss hunting elk down there. :'( :'(

theres al ot of good country and good numbers of rosies between raymond and cathlamet, but you gotta hit the brush and get in on some locked roads for your best chances. i was thinking of hunting that area this year, but im starting to get a few points built for a big bull tag over here on the east side

I Bow hunted it the last handful of years in early season. Lots of people, but if you hit the brush and get off the beaten path you'll have some sucess.  I usually hit the walk-in areas and go alot deeper than most.

If your rifle hunting take a good look at Willapa Hills unit too.  I hunted it during Late archery and could not believe the amount of bulls still alive.  Pretty steep and open for most archery where I was but saw great numbers of elk everyday.

Scouting is the key.

I live and work in the woods in Pacific county  . Tons of guys during modern, everyone wants to hunt the walk in gates. Just like every where else scouting really pays off to find that bull tucked away from everyone and the vehicle pressure.
