CVA Wolf accuracy
« on: July 10, 2018, 03:32:14 PM »
Does anyone have a load they would share that is accurate out of a CVA Wolf? I can't seem to get good accuracy out of mine. I have been using two white hots and a powerbelt 250 grn. areolite bullet. :)

I use hornady 250 gr sst-ml with 80 gr of pyrodex, 75-110 gr grouped well for me. I was recovering from a torn shoulder so 80 was about all I could tolerate.

As biggfish mentioned, the Hornady SST 250gr works really well out of the Wolf. We have used the 250gr SST, 100gr White Hots, and CCI Magnum primers to get decent groupings at 100 yards. Because of the short barrel on the Wolf, I would be happy with under a 2" grouping with pellets.

If you still aren't happy with the accuracy then, I would definitely recommend switching to loose powder. 85 grains of Pyrodex has been a very good combination with the SST's.

250g sst or one of the clones, 80g loose powder with a rws cap gets me under 1.5" with irons at 100 yds on my best days, and is perfect deer medicine.

I haven't had great accuracy with pellets in the wolf or Optima line. I think the breach length may play into that.

Are they the sights that came with the gun?

At what distance ?  I am guessing you are targeting elk and to your previous posts?  I have two friends who have had this gun.  One shot well one did not.  First thing I would do is pull in your range to take some of the shooter out of the variables.  Get a better bullets than PB, maybe 275 or better 300g Bloodlines or 290 Barnes... some loose powder and start building a load.
