Federal B.O.R. lock info?
«
on:

Has anyone tried out either the copper or lead federal bor lock bullets? They look interesting, but I can find any recent reviews on them.
I'm mostly interested in terminal performance. I got a rem 700 UML to try out this year too. I've done powerbelts and various sabots. Although the powerbelts were nice to load and accurate, they had terrible performace on my buck last year. I haven't shot anything living with any of my sabot loads, but they are accurate, if only tough to load.
These bor locks looks like they might be a mice compromise. Just looking for any info anyone has on them.

A few guys have had good luck and they preform a lot like the barnes super easy to load. IMHO with the way they seal up I would be worried about to much pressure if you plan on maxing out the 200g on the 700.
I started shooting them last year they are doing pretty good on paper did not harvest a animal with them yet.

I hadn't really thought about the pressure spikes. Something to consider....
I'm not planning on loading up to 200 grains anyway. Probably top out at about 120-130. I don't need to get mule kicked every time I light er off.

The only thing that we have encountered with the BOR Lock's is that they sometimes don't like magnum charges and tend to work better with 100 grains of powder. This isn't the case in all guns, but we have had this pop up quite a bit, so that may come into play with the loads in the 700 UML. If you're having issues with the sabots being a bit tight, you can either try the Harvester Crush Ribs, or also the Barnes T-EZ's.

I've got some crush ribs, those seem to be doing the best. I haven't tried out the Barnes yet.

I use the 270 gr. BOR LOCK in my T/C blk diamond XR, 100 grs. 777 ff, very accurate, have taken several deer, one shot instant drop. Pic of recovered round.

That's a great recovery! The base cup thing held on and all. Do they live up to the marketing of "power belt easy loading and sabot accuracy" that federal seems to push?
I'll have to order some and give them a shot. You're the first one I've seen to have any recoveries or actual on-game reports.
They seem kind of spendy, but so is everything else.

The only other one that I have recovered was missing the base cap. Both recovered were frontal shots, they leave massive wound channels. The ease of loading is the reason I switched plus the accuracy. Will not use anything else. If you watch the adds you can get some good deals on them , then I stock up.

I'm just getting into muzzleloader hunting and I'm a fan of their trophy copper line for my .270 win. I picked these up earlier this year. Was curious how they would do for elk.
