Out of State hunting
« on: September 29, 2018, 06:42:28 AM »
Well here it goes, I have been successful in filling my elk tag in Idaho the last two years.  This year was not exactly what I was looking for but with a day left to hunt, you take what you can get.  I am looking at expanding the amount of elk hunting every year.  I am very interested in hunting a couple units in Northeast Oregon.  Anyone got any good starting points?  Hunted the area?
A bad day out hunting is better than a good day at work!

Well first of all you need at least two 4 wheelers......
(I chase deer doing photography there and I swear I haven’t seen less than two per outfit.)

I would say this seems about right from my experience.  The alternative would be one large side by side with a the radio cranked up like your water skiing as you drive.  Very outdoorsy feel!

I have buddies that do well in the Prineville area.. thought about it until I seen the cost...you could almost do Idaho twice for the Oregon cost.

Eagle caps wilderness is a rugged unit but has elk and good success numbers. I've wanted to backpack in but never committed to it yet.  Gonna do Idaho next year if I dont get drawn for a quality tag in Washington
