Pot Holes Reservoir Toxic Algae
« on: October 01, 2018, 10:06:42 PM »
Just read a story that Pot Holes has warning signs up for Toxic Algae and not to go near the water. Does anyone know how long this could last?? Have reservations for end of October to take a gaggle of Boy Scouts there and do not want to get any kids sick.

If I was a guessing man I'd say Moses has to flush out first before the Potholes does.... or an event happen that kills off the algae in both waters.  The signs stay up for two weeks past the point they are found to be below the minimum levels of blue-green algae.

I'm not taking my dog out on the duck hunting opener.  I figure if both Moses and the Potholes have the algae that the other little area ponds have it also.

There is a blue algae they are saying on both lakes. They need to flush Moses into potholes, than potholes , but rumor is the dam they just repaired/replaced is broke. So they need to fix 1st. Time line ,it's Moses lake, who knows, they aren't ever in big hurry to do anything.
Is it waterfowl season yet..............

Water temperature controls algae blooms. In the Spring a lot of my lakes will bloom every 5 degrees of warming starting at about 55 degrees.  Right now temps are falling and the same process happens in reverse.  Water temps here have dropped 10 degrees in the past two weeks!

The good news is the Fall blooms don't seem to last as long.  You need temps to drop enough to kill the algae and then wind to break it up, my guess is Potholes will have both by the end of October so hopefully you'll be fine.  Good luck!
