what weapon? We hunted that general area for the first time this year in archery. Saw a decent amount of elk and a few good bulls but didn't connect. We learned a lot though.

I believe around White Sulphur the private land is much better than public for elk.
If you can get on some private ranch land could be golden.

There are a few, just follow the trucks out of town every morning and you will find it them.

They are well known and hit hard 7 days a week.  I saw one that had 12 guys sign in one day and it was 2 sections.  I got there at 8 am.

That area has limited areas open to the public unless you go north or south into the forest.  The ranches really shoot them up though.

Block management land gets pounder. Go north on the hy that goes to the ski resort. When the road starts up there’s a lot of ground there to hunt. Go east. There’s a big ranch that usually lets people hunt that time of year. If there full or won’t then hunt the edges of the ranch. They’ll be around there cuz that’s where they winter

We hunted around Ringling, MT in 2017, it's just south of White Sulphur off highway 89. The Ringling Bar has some pretty good food and drinks. 2017 was our first year hunting Montana and we didn't get much scouting in as the gentleman that took us out guaranteed us we would run into some elk to shoot. There's lots of private around Ringling and the elk were hanging all over the private stuff, they sure know where to hide. Saw two bulls that were coming off private onto public, but the land owner (who was also an outfitter) was in the area and beat feet in his truck and scared the bulls back onto the private. None of us ever did get an elk that year, did good for whitetail though.

Planning on putting in for the big game combo for 2019, possibly going to be hunting near Bozeman. Going to be starting some e-scouting on OnX Maps in that area and looking at the public land around there. White Sulphur might be our second choice for 2019. We drove through that town multiple times in 2017 and saw some monster bulls in the back of trucks. PM if you want to chat more.
Ain't nothing better than the adrenaline you get when seeing an animal in the wild.
