Noob Question - Fishing and Car Camping
« on: November 22, 2018, 09:08:17 AM »
Hi guys

New here, to the forums and to Washington, so excuse my very broad question that is generally frowned upon in forums.

Im from South Africa, so ive never caught any of the fish species around here. No Salmon, Steelhead, surf perch nothing. In fact out of those ive only ever seen a Salmon. Because well, sushi.

I would like to get started so I would like some suggestion on what to try out first. Im quite keen on driving somewhere, pitching up a tent and doing some fishing but any suggestions would be welcome.

Just something like "I love fishing for <insert fish name> in <insert river name> in May when the run is on, there is a nice camp ground/chalet/hut close by". Or "rent a boat and stop by <insert island name> and fish for <insert fish name>"

Again, broad question i know, but I gotta start somewhere, and not sure where!

Relativity experienced fisherman, mostly on holidays and a couple times during the year, so suggestions can also be vague I can figure out the rest

Thanks!

Welcome to the U.S. and this website. Where do you live at in Washington? The people close to where you live might be able to help.

What brought you to Washington?

It might be a little cold for camping.  A easy place to start would plunking some bait on one of the lakes planted recently.

I recommend trout fishing. There are many lakes throughout the state that are stocked with rainbows. They taste great and are easy to prepare. Here is a list for all the lakes stocked in the last 30 days: https://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/plants/weekly/. The wdfw website is your new best friend. Many of these places will have nearby camping, but I would just take some trips to the local lakes.
Where are you located?
